Program Overview

The Computer Science program is designed to prepare you to complete Southern Arkansas University’s (SAU) bachelor’s degrees in Computer Science.

  • Computer Science (General) - After completing your NPC associate degree, you will complete your upper-level SAU courses at NPC and receive your bachelor's degree from SAU.
  • Computer Science - Computer Gaming & Animation and
    Computer Science - Cyber Security & Privacy - After completing your NPC associate degree in these programs, you will complete your upper-level courses at SAU. 

The program also prepares you to develop your computer networking skills and acquire a strong foundation for a career with a certificate or two-year degree. A transfer opportunity that enhances your leadership and management skills is also available at the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith.

Computer Science courses are offered in blended (campus/ online) and online formats. See Class Schedules for information about the many courses offered online and in the evenings.

All courses shown in the Catalog for each individual degree program are required. Courses should be taken in the sequential order shown in the Graduation Map.

No, NPC and SAU are still independent institutions. The degrees are part of the National Park University Center, which includes transfer opportunities for many universities in Arkansas.

Yes, after completing your NPC coursework you must apply and be accepted to SAU.

Both! Your associate diploma will be granted by NPC. Upon completion of your associate degree coursework, you will be eligible to participate in NPC’s graduation ceremony. Your bachelor’s diploma will be granted by SAU. Once all requirements for graduation are met with SAU coursework, you will be eligible to participate in SAU’s commencement ceremony in Magnolia.

Yes, SAU students who are local will have the opportunity to purchase meal plans and live on campus. They will have all the services, support, and resources of NPC students except for NJCAA athletics.

Yes, students enrolled in these degree programs will have the opportunity to apply for SAU transfer scholarships.

Yes, students who meet the eligibility requirements will be able to apply for the SAU Honors College. Graduates of the NPC Honors Program can transfer NPC honors credit into the SAU Honors College.

If you are eligible for federal financial aid, your aid will be processed through the NPC financial aid office during your freshman and sophomore coursework. Once you transfer and are accepted to SAU, your financial aid will be processed through the SAU financial aid office.

For your freshman and sophomore level coursework, you will pay NPC tuition and fees to NPC. For your junior and senior level coursework, you will pay SAU tuition and fees to SAU.

The faculty mentors listed below are the degree program advisors. After meeting with the faculty mentor for your selected degree, your mentor will refer you to an NPC Advisor who will assist you in registering for classes.

No. While these degrees prepare you to enter medical school, pharmacy school, or graduate school, you can also find high-demand and lucrative science related careers with the Biology and Chemistry degrees upon graduation.

Yes, all coursework will be completed on the NPC campus or through NPC online. All freshman and sophomore level coursework will be taught by NPC instructors. Junior and senior level coursework will be taught by NPC and SAU faculty.
